Our precision engineering department recondition and machine brake drums, brake rotors and drake discs to exacting tolerances and achieve the correct finishes required, thereby restoring the braking surface finish. We have several machines specifically for this purpose. We use counter rotating cup grinding technology to machine slotted and cross drilled performance and race car brake rotors that cannot be machined by traditional methods.
Our team also repair brake master cylinders, clutch master cylinders, brake wheel cylinders and clutch slave cylinder bores by machining the internal bore and inserting a specifically machined stainless steel insert to restore the worn internal sleeve and add durability.
Our heavy-duty brake lathe machines are ideal for machining large truck and heavy earthmoving equipment brake drums.
Flywheel Machining / Flywheel Lightening
We machine flat and recessed truck and earthmoving equipment flywheel surfaces. Heavy equipment and truck flywheels require a specific finish, and we can machine these to the required finish. Balancing of heavy flywheels is available on request.
We machine car and light commercial vehicle flywheels to the required specification. Flywheel lightening and balancing for performance car and race car applications are available and we usually require the clutch assembly to dynamically balance the assembly for better results.
The team at QAM have the skill, experience and equipment to manufacture, repair or modify your driveshafts / propshafts as required. We also repair and balance large flails and mower shafts. We manufacture, modify and recondition any driveshaft application:
* Automotive driveshafts
* Truck driveshafts and Jack shafts
* Marine driveshafts
* Industrial equipment driveshafts
* Heavy Equipment / Off Highway driveshafts
* PTO shafts (power take off)

Dynamic Balancing
Our engineering department carry out dynamic balancing of all manner of shafts and rotating assemblies using our long bed balancing machine. Balancing is carried out to eliminate vibrations that will cause premature component failure and compromise reliability. When a shaft is rotating at high speed and is not balanced correctly, it affects the performance and increases the energy required and could lead to safety being compromised. Our balancing work is not only for driveshafts but extends to a wide variety of components.
We supply dynamic balancing services for:
Marine Applications / Handling Equipment / Forestry industry / Industrial / Harvesting / Pulp / Fertiliser / Trucking / Heavy Earthmoving Equipment to name a few
Big or small, we can balance …
* Crankshafts
* Flywheels
* Propshafts
* Driveshafts
* PTO shafts
* Propeller shafts
* Impellers
* Fans
* Armatures
* Crushing drums
* Drying tumblers
* Impellers
* Propellers
* Flails
* Mower assemblies
* Wheel rims
We machine mandrels, flanges, fittings and jigs to adapt the assembly to our balancing machine.
Line Boring and Portable Line Boring
Our CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) Line Boring machines are used to repair, and machine worn holes. Automated bore welding allows us to weld and then machine the hole or eye back to its original dimensions or bore it out to accept a bush. Where multiple holes need to be collinear (precisely lined up), we line bore centrelines to be accurately linear. We also machine the external flange faces in relation to the hole to accurately match. We also machine circlip and retainer grooves into the holes as required.
Once the hole has been repaired, we machine and supply pins and bushes to fit accordingly. Hardened pins can also be supplied if required.
All industries have machines with moving parts that probably have bores and pivots that must be accurately linear for the machine to operate correctly.
Transporting machinery and equipment can be very time consuming and costly, QAM have experienced engineers that can come to your worksite with a Portable CNC Internal Mig Welder and Line Boring machine to cater to all your machining needs. In most instances we are able to machine the holes in place and where the machine is located and therefore saving cost on complete disassembly and transport. We have a fully equipped mobile workshop that will come to site and complete the machining.
With experience and state of the art machines we are able to repair equipment in industries such as: Earthmoving / Heavy Lifting Equipment / Mining and Quarry Equipment / Transport / Port Operations / Agricultural.
Most industrial Line Boring machines are used on a wide range of projects, with some common examples including, but not limited to:
- Excavator Buckets and Mounts
- Large Machine Pivots
- Gearbox Housings
- Stern Tubes and Rudder Bores in the shipbuilding industry
- Driveshaft Housing Boring
- A-Frame Supports
- Hinge Pins
- Worn Holes on all Equipment and Machinery
- Parallel Boring
- Machining the outside face of a work piece
- Build up and weld holes from 25mm to 450mm to exacting tolerances
Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant testing is a non-destructive testing process for detection of surface and slightly sub surface cracks or defects in materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt and some alloys.
There are many benefits to Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant Inspections:
- Quick to carry out so any defects are indicated straight away. This means results are immediate and no waiting times.
- It shows surface and near surface defects
- It is cost effective
- The Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant inspection is portable so it can be used at the workshop or done on site to save you time. It is useful in confined spaces and can be done on small and large items quickly and efficiently.
There are many components that can be tested including:
- Fan Blades
- Axles
- Twist Locks
- Gears
- Hydraulic Rams
- Pulleys
- Stub Axles
- Steering Components
- Rims
- Gear Box Housing
- Chain Links
- U Bolts
